Terms of Use
The short version: don't be a jerk.
Last updated: June 17, 2026
By using Bonfire you agree to these terms. They're written plainly because we want you to actually read them. If something here isn't clear, email us.
Who can use Bonfire
You must be at least 17 years old to use Bonfire. By creating an account, you confirm that you are. If you're using Bonfire on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind it to these terms.
Your account
Your account is tied to your phone number. You're responsible for keeping access to that number safe. If you lose access and haven't set up a recovery email, we may not be able to get you back into your account.
You can have only one account per phone number. Creating accounts to evade a removal or to harass others is grounds for termination.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abuse
Bonfire has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You agree not to post, transmit, or share:
- Hate speech, slurs, or attacks on any individual or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- Sexually explicit content of any kind, including any content that sexualizes minors.
- Threats of violence, incitement, glorification of violence, or graphic violent content.
- Harassment, bullying, stalking, doxxing, or targeted abuse.
- Self-harm encouragement or graphic depictions of self-harm.
- Spam, scams, fraud, or impersonation.
- Anything illegal in your jurisdiction.
We act on reports within 24 hours. Content that violates these standards will be removed and the user who posted it will be ejected from the Service.
Reporting and blocking
Every message and user surface in Bonfire includes a one-tap mechanism to:
- Report objectionable content. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team and acted on within 24 hours.
- Block abusive users. When you block someone, their content is removed from your feed immediately and they cannot reach you on Bonfire.
We encourage every user to use these tools whenever they encounter content or behavior that crosses the line above.
Other rules
You also agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to circumvent the app's security.
- Build a competing service using data scraped from Bonfire.
- Use Bonfire for commercial mass-messaging.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. For serious violations, we may report to law enforcement.
Your content
You own what you post. You grant us a limited license to store, transmit, and display your content for the sole purpose of running the app for you and your groups. We do not claim ownership, we do not use your content for marketing, and we do not use it to train AI models.
You're responsible for what you post. If you don't have the right to share something (a copyrighted song, someone else's photo of a private moment, etc.), don't post it.
Group ownership
The person who creates a group is its owner. Owners can remove members, edit the group cover, and delete the group. If an owner leaves Bonfire, ownership transfers to the next-oldest member.
Deleting a group permanently removes its messages, photos, polls, events, and other content for all members. There is no undo.
Reporting
If someone in a group is violating these terms, you can report them by emailing tcannon.mail@gmail.com with the group name, the person's display name, and what they did. We review every report.
Service availability
We work to keep Bonfire running smoothly, but we don't guarantee it will be available without interruption. We may need to take parts of the service down for maintenance, security, or upgrades. We may also discontinue features that aren't working out.
Bonfire is provided "as is" — without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms or if your use of the app puts other users at risk.
If your account is terminated, the data-handling rules in our Privacy Policy still apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app before they take effect. Continued use of Bonfire after the change means you agree to the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
